COVID-19: Salaries of health workers paid on time, clarifies Tripura govt
Agartala: A day after the solicitor general submitted before the Supreme Court that five states including Tripura did not pay salaries to the doctors and health workers on time to full satisfaction, Tripura government by a press release has informed that the salary of health workers including doctors have been paid in due date every month.
The solicitor general, Tushar Mehta, had submitted that an order was passed on June 18 by the Union ministry of health and family welfare directing for payment of salaries of doctors and health workers during the period of COVID-19 on time.
However, five states — Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka and Tripura have not paid the salaries to the doctors and health workers on time to the full satisfaction.
Speaking with EastMojo, law minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the salaries of health workers including doctors have been paid on due date every month.
“Not only for health workers but full salaries of all employees of the state government have been paid on due date without any deduction," Nath said.
He also said that the counsel for the petitioners had also stated that for doctors and health workers who are quarantined, their quarantine period is treated as on leave. However, the Tripura government has treated their quarantine period as on duty.
“All health workers and doctors, who are quarantined, whether in an institution or at home, as per requirements of their duty, their period of quarantine is treated on duty. Further, full cost of their food, lodging and medical attention etc. during the period of institutional quarantine is paid by the government”, Nath added.
Speaking further, he said that the health workers are the warriors in fighting against the COVID-19. All of them have received their salaries in time, in addition, we have also announced incentives and honorarium for those working for COVID-19.
“This happened due to the miscommunication between the officials, the government of Tripura will file a detailed affidavit to the Apex Court within a week”, Nath said.
