State legislator, his bodyguard and driver test positive for COVID-19; all 3 are asymptomatic; as per directive, legislator is under home quarantine
Kohima: A total of 53 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Nagaland on Wednesday, taking the state's tally to 1,513. Out of the 53 new cases, one is a member of the Nagaland legislative Assembly.
A close aide of the legislator told EastMojo that the politician along with a bodyguard and a driver had tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. All three are said to be asymptomatic. The family and close contacts of the legislator have reportedly been tested on Wednesday, the results for which are awaited.
The legislator is put under home quarantine as per the advice of a doctor, the source informed. The bodyguard and the driver were shifted to a Covid care centre by ambulance. The source said that legislator had no travel history and the source of infection is unknown at the moment.
The development comes after all legislators, designated drivers and bodyguards were tested for COVID-19 on Sunday as a precautionary measure for the state legislative Assembly session which is scheduled to be held on July 30.
In another case, two more persons — a driver and a bodyguard of another legislator — also tested positive for COVID-19. One close aide of the legislator confirmed that the two patients, both of whom are asymptomatic, have been shifted to a covid care centre. The legislator was tested as negative for COVID-19.
Overall, 53 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday out of 453 test results that have been received. Out of these, 29 are from Dimapur, 19 are from Kohima and five are from Mon, informed Nagaland Health minister S Pangnyu Phom.

With the addition of the new cases, the current number of active cases as per the districts are: Dimapur with 404; Kohima with 301; Longleng with 1 case; Mokokchung with 8; Mon with 140; Peren with 40; Phek with 14; Tuensang with 8; Wokha with 7; Zunheboto with 8.
