COVID-19: Meghalaya govt decides not to extend lockdown in Shillong

Govt appeals all residents not to be complacent even though the lockdown is lifted in Shillong agglomeration and to take care of themselves

Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday decided not to extend the lockdown that was reimposed in Shillong agglomeration and which is scheduled to end on July 29 midnight.

Addressing the media, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that after taking into consideration all inputs from district administration as well as health department, the government has decided not to extend lockdown.

“We have decided to appeal all the concerned citizens of the state that even though the lockdown is lifted in Shillong agglomeration, people should not be complacent. They need to take care of themselves as notified by the state health department from time to time. Therefore, I request on behalf of the government to all the citizens of the state to kindly be vigilant and also stay safe by adhering in totality the protocols & SOPs issued by the government,” said Tynsong.

Meanwhile, five new COVID-19 cases were detected on Wednesday — 2 from East Khasi Hills from the Armed Forces, 1 from Ri-Bhoi and 2 from West Garo Hills from the BSF.
