Tripura reports 4 more COVID-19 related deaths; 6 within 24 hours

Agartala: Tripura on Monday registered the biggest single day COVID-19 related deaths as four more persons succumbed to the virus, taking the total tally to 17 so far.

All four deaths were reported from Agartala Government Medical College. The youngest one was a 40-year-old from Melaghar in Sepahijala district of Tripura.

Speaking with reporters, law minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the four persons died fighting COVID-19 virus at Agartala Government Medical College’s COVID-19 hospital.

“The first death was of Mintu Chandra Saha, 84-year-old from Shantipali area under Gomati district. He was admitted to AGMC on July 23 with breathing problems and while undergoing treatment he succumbed to the virus at 1:30 pm on Monday,” Nath said.

He also said that the second death was of Narayan Chandra Deb, 75-year-old from Rajarbag area in Gomati district. He was admitted on July 25 after a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) stroke and was undergoing treatment since July 25.

“The third deceased was Pulin Majumder, 70-year-old from Jolaibari and was admitted on July 26 with breathing problems. The four deceased, Dulal Chandra Paul, 40-year-old from Melaghar, under Sepahijala, was suffering from breathing problems and was admitted on July 26 in AGMC hospital”, Nath added.

Currently, 215 persons are in facility quarantine, and 3,915 in home quarantine. A total of 1,40,174 samples have collected, out of which 1,38,063 were tested.

So far, 3,920 persons have tested positive for the virus, while 2,467 persons have been discharged after they recovered from the infection, with 17 deaths and 1,417 active cases so far.

The positivity rate stands at 2.82 per cent, test per million at 34,766, while the recovery rate stands at 63.22 percent and mortality rate at 0.43 per cent. The state has 166 containment zones at the moment.
