Manipur: RIMS Hospital closed till July 29 as 6 patients test COVID-19 positive

Imphal: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal has been temporarily closed till July 29 as a precautionary measure following the reports of six patients at the hospital testing positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

The patients who tested positive were undergoing treatment in the derma-nephro ward of RIMS Hospital, as per reports.

Given the increasing COVID-19 positive cases among the RIMS staff and healthcare workers, RIMS Hospital will be closed with immediate effect till July 29, said medical superintendent Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh in an order.

However, services at flu clinic near the isolation ward and laboratory of VRDL and MDRU of RIMS Hospital will continue to function as usual, he said.

Meanwhile, epidemiological investigation and contact tracing inside RIMS Hospital has been initiated by the community medicine department.

Also, all heads of department and unit heads have been instructed to reinforce the infection prevention and control measures strictly to contain-19 testing must be submitted to ascertain.

On the other hand, at least 11 CISF personnel who had recently arrived in Manipur for additional security assistance to chief minister N Biren Singh have also tested for the virus at the quarantine center at Vale Academy in Imphal.

However, no security personnel currently being deployed at CM’s secretariat have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, said sources.
