Manipur: Pharmacist tests COVID-19 positive in Churachandpur, few medical stores closed

Imphal: All pharmacies and medical stores in and around Churachandpur district hospital in Manipur were closed on Sunday after one person who runs a chemist shop inside the perimeter of the hospital detected positive for COVID-19. The person reportedly doesn’t have any immediate travel history outside the state.

In a closure order issued by district deputy commissioner Pawan Yadav, all pharmacies within 50 metres’ radius of the perimeter fencing of District Hospital Churachandpur, especially IB Road, will be closed as a measure to contain the spread of COVID-19 and initiating active surveillance within the area.

The prohibitory order is in continuation with the curfew being imposed in the district and other parts of the state since July 23. Since then, the movement of people outside their residence are being restricted and all commercial establishments have remained closed, except medical stores in the district.

Any persons found violating the directive orders shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), it said.

Meanwhile, chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal has been put under containment zone after a staffer at COVID-19 Control Room tested positive for the coronavirus on Saturday.

The containment area includes the northern, eastern and western boundary walls of Durbar Hall of the CM Secretariat and Manipur police headquarters premise in the south, said Imphal West DC Naorem Praveen Singh.

As on Sunday, at least 59 more persons, including six locals with no travel history, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur, taking the total confirmed cases to 2,235.

There are 714 active cases in the state now while 1,521 persons have recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
