Five persons from Thoubal district and one from Imphal West district, a non-returnee from another state, tested positive for coronavirus
Imphal: At least 59 more persons, including five locals with no travel history, tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Sunday, taking the total confirmed cases to 2,235.
The number of active cases stand at 714, and 1,521 persons have recovered and got discharged from hospitals.
According to additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, five persons from Thoubal district and one from Imphal West district, a non-returnee from another state, tested positive for the coronavirus.
Of the latest 59 cases, 37 are from Imphal West, 14 from Thoubal, five from Kakching and three from Tamenglong districts. Their samples were tested positive at the VRDL of RIMS (58) and Babina Diagnostics Lab (1) in Imphal.
In the past 24 hours, one more person was discharged from COVID-19 Care Center of Thoubal after he was tested negative on the RT PCR test.
After reports of locals in Thoubal district with no travel history testing COVID-19 positive, the state health department carried out an active search and traced 6,475 people who are both primary and secondary contacts of COVID-19 patients. Ten new cases were detected from contact tracing.
Moreover, after a privately-run lab employee tested positive in Churachandpur district last week, an intensive contact tracing was put in place and 545 contacts identified. So far, 143 of them are found negative, and the results of the remaining are awaited.
