Guwahati: An Assam Police (AP) constable, Puni Mech Paul, reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday. With this, the number of Assam Police personnel dying due to the virus rises to three.
Paul was working as a constable at Namrup Police Station in Dibrugarh district.
Announcing this, Assam Police tweeted, “We are saddened to inform that WPC Puni Mech Paul, Namrup PS made the supreme sacrifice while fighting #COVID19. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and colleagues. The dedication & commitment of those who passed away fighting #Corona inspires us to serve the people.”
Earlier, Havildar Hareswar Nath of 16 IRBn, who tested positive for COVID-19 on July 7, passed away on July 10. The state police force recorded its second COVID-19 related death on July 20 after Naik Rajesh Nazrzary, who was tested COVID-19 positive on July 4, passed away at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was admitted in the ICU.
ADGP (law & order) GP Singh said that till July 22, 982 personnel of the state police force have tested positive, out of which 662 have recovered.
“July 22nd 2020 - @assampolice 982 personnel have tested positive till date out of whom 662 have recovered. 90 have rejoined duty. We’ve unfortunately lost three colleagues till date,” Singh wrote on Twitter.
