Shillong: Meghalaya deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed that the Assam Rifles has agreed to set up it’s own testing unit in their own campus.
Tynsong informed that a meeting was held between the chief secretary and the armed forces excluding BSF concerning the spike of COVID cases and the need for setting up of their own testing units.
Tynsong said that the armed forces have taken serious note on the advice of the state government ensuring that the concerned personnel of the respective military forces are kept in safe places.
“Assam Rifles has agreed to set up its own testing unit in their campus and the other forces have also been advised to set up their own testing centres so that it can be easier when it comes to collecting of samples,” said Tynsong.
In the past few weeks, there has been a surge of COVID-19 cases in the BSF Umpling campus. The campus so far has also been declared as a containment zone. According to reports, the defence forces do not have their own testing centres and that the BSF lacks isolation centres.
So far, the total COVID-19 cases reported from BSF is 267 and the Armed Forces is 14.
