Manipur: Main markets, including Lamlong Bazar, declared containment zones in Thoubal

At least 12 areas, including 9 main markets, declared containment zones in Thoubal district with immediate effect amid detection of 12 new COVID-19 cases

Thoubal: In the wake of 12 fresh cases of COVID-19 in Manipur’s Thoubal district, deputy commissioner N Bandana Devi issued prohibitory orders to contain the pandemic, on Tuesday.

At least 12 areas, including all nine main markets, have been declared containment zones in the district with immediate effect.

A total of 115 persons from Thoubal were tested positive for COVID-19, of which 63 remained active cases and 52 recovered.

During the contact tracing exercise and on further screening the number of COVID-19 positive cases among the primary contacts who are residents of Thoubal district has increased in the last few days, said DC Devi.

Therefore, under the sub-section 2 of section 144 CrPC of 1973, the movement of any person outside their respective residences has been prohibited with immediate effect until further orders, the order said.

The latest containment zones covered all the main markets under Thoubal district – Lamlong bazar, Ushoipokpi bazaar, Waithou bazaar, babu bazaar, Mina bazaar, Thoubal bazaar, Wangjing bazaar, Yairipok bazaar and Nungphou bazaar.

Also, residential areas like Thoubal Khonou, areas under Moijing Gram panchayat and Heirok part III have been declared containment zones.

During the present lockdown period, all religious places shall be closed for public and any congregations related to religious are remained prohibited, as per the official statement.

Any unauthorised entry and exit into the containment zones will be punishable as per the provision of Section of 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860.

However, those agencies of the government involved in maintaining law and order and essential services will be exempted from the restriction order, it said.

At present, Manipur has reportedly confirmed total 1,925 cases of COVID-19, out of which 605 are active and 1,320 have recovered. The recovery rate in the state is 68.57%.
