So far, 1,10,000 tests already conducted in Guwahati, while another 1,90,000 tests need to be conducted, informs health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati: Assam government has decided to set up another 60 Covid Screening Centres (CSC) in Guwahati to ramp up its testing capacity within the city, announced state health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.
Addressing a press meet, Sarma said that Guwahati has a population of around 10 lakh people, barring the people who frequent the city for work on a daily basis. And to eliminate COVID-19, it needs to test at least 3 lakh people in the city.
With the 60 new CSC, the total number of screening centres will reach 90 within the city. These centres are to become functional from July 22 or 23, and they will massively support the state's testing endeavours.
The health minister informed that so far 1,10,000 tests have already been conducted in Guwahati city, while another 1,90,000 tests need to be conducted.
Meanwhile, to increase manpower, a new batch of 150 lab technicians will be hired in the next 1 week.
Also, three news Viral testing labs will be inaugurate this week at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute, GMCH Cancer Hospital and Sonapur Civil Hospital, and within this month, a total of 6 new RTPCR test labs will be ready and fucntioning.
