Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Tuesday decided that after the contact tracing of COVID-19 patients in the state is carried out, the names of the persons will be communicated to all the local headmen so that they can monitor their movement.

So far, 198 contacts have been traced from the positive cases tested in Shillong.

During a media briefing held in Shillong, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the decision was made in a review meeting held on Tuesday.

“We have decided that those people whom we carried out the contact tracing, the 198 contacts done so far, so from now on, those names will be communicated to all the local headmen or the COVID-19 management committee of the respective localities to monitor the movement of these people. We want them to quarantine at home and not to mix with the people in the locality or roam around the streets. We want that if they test negative also they will have to follow the 14-day quarantine period,” said Tynsong.

He added that the health department and district administration will immediately inform those people whom we have completed the contact tracing. While their samples have been sent for testing and is awaited for the report and even if they test negative they will have to follow the 14-day quarantine.

This exercise will begin from Wednesday onwards, informed Tynsong.
