Imphal: One more doctor from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) has tested positive for COVID-19. She was among the 132 fresh cases reported in Manipur on Friday

She is the second healthcare worker from the hospital to have got infected with the virus in two consecutive days, said sources.

Also, an attendant of RIMS hospital has been confirmed as COVID-19 positive, said the official.

Now, the total confirmed cases in the state soared to 1,582, with number of active and recovered cases at 750 and 832, respectively.

As per reliable sources, the woman doctor who was on COVID-19 duty at JNIMS COVID-19 Care Facility tested positive on the seventh day of her duty before she went on for mandatory quarantine as precautionary measure.

On Thursday, a doctor who was part of the sample collection team to COVID-19 positive patients tested positive for the virus, making the first healthcare worker from JNIMS to have contracted the virus.

Of the latest 132 cases which were tested at VRDLs of RIMS (124), JNIMS (5) and sub-district hospital Jiribam (3), at least 37 persons are from Ukhrul, 28 from Kamjong, another 24 from Imphal West, 11 from Kakching, 10 from Tamenglong, nine from Jiribam, eight more Thoubal, four from Senapati and one from Imphal East districts.

They will be shifted to the COVID-19 Care Facilities for further treatment and all necessary medical precautionary measures like contact tracing and containment process are in place, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

In the past 24 hours, another 33 persons were discharged from COVID-19 Care Center (CCC) of Meitram (15), Senapati CCC (6) and Ukhrul CCC (12) after they were tested negative on RT PCR test, it said.
