Aizawl: Two more Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in central Mizoram’s Serchhip district have been found infected with novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, an official said.
With them, as many as 203 people have so far been infected with the deadly disease out of which 60 are active patients while 143 have recovered already, the official said.
He said that the two jawans belong to 60 battalion of BSF and had returned from Assam’s Dholcherra.
They have been placed under quarantine since their arrival in the state on June 25 at Vahne camp in Lunglei district and later they were shifted to their original post at Dawngzawl in Serchhip district on July 3 where they were also quarantined, he said.
They were found infected with Covid-19 at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Wednesday night, the official said.
While the jawan, who aged 51 years, has developed symptoms of Covid-19, the other jawan, who is 30 years, developed no symptoms, he added.
So far, at least 12 BSF personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mizoram, the official said.
Meanwhile, all the 35 primary contacts of 15 NDRF personnel, who have tested positive for Covid-19 on July 4 and July 6 at Lungverh camp near Aizawl, were found negative for the virus, according to a statement by state information and public relation department.
