Manipur: JNIMS doctor among 15 new cases of COVID-19; state tally 1,450

Imphal: A doctor from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Thursday, said sources.

She is among the 15 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 tested positive at the VRDLs of RIMS (1) and JNIMS (10) and testing centre at district hospital of Jiribam (4).

The total cases of the novel coronavirus in the state has now soared to 1,450. including 651 active cases and 799 recovered.

According to reports, this is the first such case in which a healthcare worker from JNIMS has tested positive for COVID-19 so far.

As per sources, the woman doctor was part of the sample collection team of JNIMS Hospital where they collected the samples from those patients being admitted at the JNIMS COVID-19 Care Facility.

Till date, a total of 323 COVID-19 patients were admitted at JNIMS, of which 220 have recovered and 103 are being kept at isolation facility for observation.

Of the latest 15 fresh cases, eight cases are reported from Churachandpur, four from Jiribam and one each case from Bishnupur, Imphal East and Tamenglong.

They will be shifted to COVID-19 Care Facilities for further treatment, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, he said.

Meanwhile, another six persons recovered from COVID-19 Care Center (CCC) of Meitram (4), Ukhrul CCC (1) and Kasom Khullen Kamjong CCC (1) after they were tested negative on RT PCR test.

The recovery rate has now increased to 55.1%, said the official.

As on Thursday, a total of 2,97,358 persons have been screened and 59,740 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus, as per the statement issued by state health department.
