Tinsukia: High drama on Wednesday after a 35-year-old woman refused to give her swab sample for Covid-19 test, keeping officials on their toes. The incident took place inside a containment zone at Paanchali in Dibrugarh town of Assam.
Circle officer of Dibrugarh east revenue Sujata Gogoi said that a health team had gone to collect samples of all the persons residing in a building at Paanchali after two more residents of the building tested positive for Covid-19. “However, a woman resisted and refused to give her sample.”
“I, along with the superintendent of Dibrugarh police Sreejith T and other officials rushed to the spot to convince the woman,” says Gogoi. It took three long hours of struggle for the health team to collect her swab sample with the cooperation of her husband.
The building, a containment zone, was occupied by four families.
"Few days back a teenager, having travel history from out of Assam, tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the health department to collect swab samples of all the primary contacts, as detected in the contact tracing, including his family," informs Gogoi.
She added, "Today two of his family members tested positive after which the health team went to collect samples from all residents of that building."
In another major development, surgery at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital was suspended after a doctor tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday.
Talking to EastMojo, deputy commissioner of Jorhat said, a surgeon at JMCH tested positive for the virus after which regular surgeries has been suspended for the time being till results of the contact are out. "Active contact tracing has been initiated," she added.
In the neighbouring Tinsukia district, 19 fresh cases were reported on Tuesday night.
"The cases include a 28-year old worker at a hotel, which is a quarantine centre. Hence, we are not treating it as a field case," a source in health department said, adding, from the remaining cases, 17 are from institutional quarantine centres and 1 from home quarantine.
He added, the hotel has been declared a containment zone.
