4 more succumb to COVID-19 in Assam -- 3 from Guwahati and 1 from Barpeta; taking the state’s death tally to 20
Guwahati: Four more COVID-19 positive patients in Assam died in the wee hours of Wednesday, taking the state’s death tally due to the dreaded coronavirus to 20.
The four deceased have been identified as Safikul Rahman (60) of Hidayatpur, Guwahati; Romoni Mazumdar (60) of Patacharkuchi, Barpeta; Utpal Kumar Chaliha (75) of Kahilipara, Dispur; and Hari Prasad Mandal (68) of Lalganesh, Guwahati.
Announcing this, Assam minister for health and family welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “My heartfelt condolences to families and relatives of four more victims of #COVID19. These are trying times, and we all must adhere to guidelines being repeatedly given - wearing mask, social distance and not going out unless very important.”
Informing that all these persons were on invasive ventilation, had severe pneumonia, urosepsis and septic shock, the minister said, “Very sad and anguish to inform that four more COVID-19 positive patients have succumbed to the disease. Safikul Rahman (60 years) of Hidayatpur, Guwahati; Romoni Mazumdar (60) of Patacharkuchi, Barpeta; Utpal Kumar Chaliha (75) of Kahilipara Dispur; Hari Prasad Mandal (68) of Lalganesh Guwahati admitted in the GMCH COVID ICU succumbed to their critical infections today early morning between 2 am to 5 am. They all were on invasive ventilation, had severe pneumonia, urosepsis and septic shock. My condolences to all the families. We stand by you in this hour of grief.”
Meanwhile, altogether 814 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam till 11.40 pm on Tuesday. Out of this, 588 cases are from Guwahati city.
According to Sarma's tweet posted at 11.40 pm on Tuesday, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Assam has now touched 13,336. Out of this, the number of recovered cases is 8,329, active cases are 4,988.
