22 new cases in Sikkim, 20 identified as contacts of positive SSB Jawan
Gangtok: Just when the State was moving towards a decline in the number of COVID 19 positive cases, 22 new cases sprung up in the State. Among them, 20 are primary contacts of an SSB Jawan who had tested positive days ago from a quarantine centre in Rhenock, East Sikkim.
The State tally of active cases which had dropped below 30, has once again crossed the 50 plus mark with 51 active cases. 13 have migrated out, 61 discharged so far from 125 cases recorded in the State.
Apart from the 20 new cases, one positive case is that of a Delhi returnee; The other is a local driver who was engaged in ferrying people from screening centres to the designated quarantine centres.
Social media is flooded with posts on the local driver, with people concerned about community transmission. He is the first patient with no travel history outside of the State.
Of the last few cases to come up, most were reported in the paramilitary forces such as the Indo Tibetan Border Police and Sahastra Seema Bal and their contacts. State Health Department has previously requested the Army and the paramilitary to share their travel SOPs, with a growing number of cases.
All the new cases have been admitted in the Isolation ward of STNM Hospital and contact tracing of all primary and secondary contacts is almost complete, informed State Health Director-General Dr. Pempa Tshering Bhutia in his daily health bulletin on Sunday.
