Tripura lockdown: CM shares video offering ginger-water to mother, netizens follow suit
Agartala: While Tripura observed a complete lockdown for 24 hours to test the awareness among the people in containing the spread of coronavirus on Sunday, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday was seen offering his mother Mina Deb a glass of ginger-water in a short video clip.
In the 36-second video, Deb is seen grinding ginger and boiling it with water and offering the drink to his mother.
Taking to the social media, Deb wrote, “I have given ginger-boiled water to my mother this morning in accordance with the appeal I made to everyone earlier. I hope you have taken care of your mother, father and the elderly in your house like this. If you haven’t, offer this drink to them. It will help in boosting their immunity to prevent diseases and protect themselves from corona. Stay safe and take care of the elderly in your house and share photos and videos of this great work on social media.”
Following the appeal of the chief minister, a number of people followEd suit and started sharing pictures and videos on social media taking part with #TakeCareOfElder.
Earlier on Saturday, the chief minister launched a free fruit distribution programme in Chandrapur, Agartala to help in boosting the immunity system of people across all urban local bodies, subdivision and district headquarters. The Self Help Group (SHG) workers would be distributing the pineapple slices and lemon juice among the people in their respective areas.
Dr Tomojit Nath, wrote on Twitter: “I support the awareness campaign started by our respected CM @BjpBiplab ji. Served hot water with ginger to my grandmother which shall help boost immunity and give us strength to fight against #COVID19”.
Meanwhile, the 24-hour lockdown announced by the state government was seen observing by the people across the state. All offices, market places, shops and trading concerns remained closed following the orders. However, essential services were exempted from the restriction.
“No untoward incident was reported in the last 14 hours of the complete lockdown and people have cooperated whole-heartedly so far. Around 20 people were picked up by police patrolling vans in early morning hours while most of them were out for patrolling,” an official from police headquarters informed.
