Agartala: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Corona Pratirodh Abhiyan’, a month-long distribution programme of vitamin C-enriched, ready-to-eat pineapple slices and lemon juice to boost public immunity in urban areas and subdivision headquarters.
Addressing the people in Chandrapur after launching the programme, Deb said that the state government has decided to distribute pineapple slice and lemon juice across all eight districts in 316 centres including 316 all the wards of municipalities, nagar panchayats and headquarters of sub-divisions and districts headquarters.
“The programme is taken with an aim to boost the immune system of the people amidst fight against novel coronavirus. The month-long event will be operated by the female members of the Self Help Groups (SHG) across the state,” Deb said.
He also said that Tripura had not recorded a single case till April 5, but gradually, as people started returning to state, many started testing positive.
“Tripura managed to record a good place in terms of recovery rate of corona patients and sample testing of persons arriving from outside the state, people who had come in contact with positive persons,” he added.
Tripura’s queen pineapple has already marked its presence in the national and international level. The state produces around 1.28 lakh MT pineapples every year.
The distribution of ready-to-eat pineapples and lemon juice would continue from 12 pm to 4 pm and each SHG would be allowed to sell 200 pineapples and 400 lemon juice.
Nearly 300 farmers and their families would get financial support by selling 3 lakh pineapples and 6 lakh lemons. The state government has incurred Rs 1 crore for this programme.
