Imphal:Manipur on Saturday has started contact tracing after a volunteer with a food catering service at a quarantine centre tested positive for COVID-19 in Thoubal district; This is the first time a COVID-19 volunteer has been infected in the state.
Earlier, six frontline healthcare workers, including two medical officers, who came directly in contact with COVID-19 patients, tested positive to the virus.
On Friday, at least 19 persons tested positive for COVID-19, including the volunteer and eight other returnees belonging to Thoubal district.
As per the official, the volunteer who is an active member of Thoubal Assembly Constituency COVID-19 Aid Committee might have exposed to the virus while working at a quarantine centre.
As soon the volunteers sample report came positive, his family members were shifted to Thoubal College for quarantine and necessary testing procedure.
Meanwhile, three medical staff of district hospital Bishnupur, including two medical officers, who tested positive on June 22 have recovered. “All the sample of family members, close contacts, caterers and district hospital staff who attended the isolation ward during the second week starting from June 15 and whose sample were collected on Friday have also returned negative results,” said Dr L Gojendra Singh, chief medical officer of Bishnupur.
So far, Manipur has recorded a total positive confirmed cases for novel coronavirus to 1,092 and 660 as an active cases.
The recovery rate has increased to 36.55 per cent and 432 persons have already recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
