Gangtok: Altogether 16 persons tested negative for novel coronavirus aka COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 49. Out of these 16 patients, 15 are from South Sikkim, while a single patient is from West Sikkim. All these patients will be discharged collectively from STNM hospital.
Cumulatively, the state will now discharge 21 patients of the 70 positive cases so far.
With the implementation of compulsory paid quarantine rules since June 18, the state has registered a decrease of just 66 returnees. Altogether 110 patients were discharged on Friday. Flu Clinics saw 82 patients being admitted with 39 in STNM, 22 in District Hospital and eight in Central Referral Hospital, all in East Sikkim. South and West Sikkim collectively had 13 patients.
VRDL lab in STNM conducted 357 RT PCR testing, with 287 being negative with no further backlogs, including the repeat tests.
Meanwhile, amid the increasing number of suicide-related cases across the globe, state health director general and secretary, Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia, said, "With the lockdown, it is understood that many people are undergoing frustration with no activity. Then there is the spread of fake news which people follow. But there are means where we can talk about suicide-related issues and engage them in discussion. If there arises any suicidal tendencies then district hospitals have psychiatrists while the primary health centres have also counsellors from whom patients can seek help. We can overcome depression.”
