Assam: Now Kamrup (M) has 12 new containment zones; total 118

Kamrup Metro has a total of 118 containment zones with 12 new being declared today after detection of new COVID-19 cases in those areas

Guwahati: Twelve new containment zones were declared in Assam's Kamrup (M) district on Friday. The move came after the detection of fresh COVID-19 cases in many areas of Guwahati.

To provide a safeguard against the infectious disease, Kamrup Metro deputy commissioner Biswaji Pegu directed the circle officer to seal the following areas with immediate effect.

Kalyanpur, Ganeshguri

North Boundary (NB): Residence of Kalyan Boro, South Boundary (SB): Residence of Nakul Boro, East Boundary (EB): Byelane No. 3, West Boundary (WB): Residence of Sahjahan

Kamakhya Gate

Any violation of the order will attract action under the provisions of “The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020”, “The Disaster Management Act-2005.” With this, the total number of containment zones in Kamrup (M) has risen to 118.

Due to the sharp rise of COVID-19 positive cases in Guwahati and that too without any recent travel history has led to health ninister Himanta Biswa Sarma forewarning the possibility of yet another lockdown. At least 50,000 random tests are to be conducted and that too under targeted surveillance initiative to ascertain the extent of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the city. The outcome of the sample review will be known on June 30.

The samples are being collected from vulnerable and at-risk people such as staff of quarantine centres, people working in parking lots, godowns, nearby shops, petrol depots, dhabas, police personnel engaged in COVID-19 duty, etc.

According to the latest reports, 102 new cases were detected on Friday, taking the total number of affected to 5,006 out of which 1,928 are still active cases. The number of discharged patients has reached to 3,066 with nine deaths so far.
