Imphal: Another 52 persons, including 20 women, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur, while 33 patients have recovered and discharged from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Wednesday.

Now, the total confirmed cases for novel coronavirus in the state has soared to 552 and recovered cases stand at 192.

The accumulative active cases stand at 360.

Of the latest 52 cases, 20 are from Ukhrul, 10 from Bishnupur, six from Thoubal, four each from Chandel, Kakching and Kangpokpi, two from Imphal West and one each from Churachandpur and Kamjong districts, respectively.

They are being shifted at COVID-19 care facilities in Imphal for further treatment and all are in stable conditions, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

To address the huge backlog of samples in the state, under the initiatives of the Centre and state government, five RT PCR machines are being operated — two at the VRDLs of RIMS and three at JNIMS.

Moreover, three Truenat machines -- one in JNIMS and two in RIMS — are now used for COVID-19 testing.

At present, around 1,200 samples are being tested for COVID-19 in a day.
