Tripura: 3 blocks in Sepahijala declared COVID 'containment zones'

Agartala: The Sepahijala district administration in Tripura on Sunday declared three blocks as "containment zones" in a bid to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

Addressing a press conference, Sepahijala district magistrate CK Jamatia said that three blocks — Kathalia, Boxanagar and Nalchar — under the district will remain as containment zones for 14 days till June 28.

"Nobody would be allowed to enter and exit unless for any emergency purposes without prior permission from the sub-divisional magistrate. Passes will be required for all those emergency workers," Jamatia said.

He also said that Sepahijala has reported 45% of the total cases in the state so far.

“A total of 28 Nakas have been set up across all three blocks, including 10 in Nalchar, nine each in Kathalia and Boxanagar blocks under Sepahijala district," Jamatia added.

Meanwhile, the district superintendent of police, Krishnendu Chakraborty, informed that adequate number of police and TSR jawans have been deployed across the area. “Anybody violating the protocol would face action," he said.

Earlier, a quarantine jail was set up in the district for anyone violating home quarantine norms and the imprisonment may extend up to two years. The quarantine jails would be operational under the jail superintendent.

A total of 42,066 persons were placed under surveillance, out of which 33,883 persons were released after completion of 14 days’ observation period. While there are 529 persons in facility quarantine while 7,659 persons in-home quarantine as on Sunday.

On Sunday, 1,229 samples were collected from across the state and 850 samples, including samples of those who returned from other parts. A total of 48,632 samples have been collected of which 46,001 samples have been tested.
