Manipur: 32 more test positive for COVID-19; another 60 recover

Imphal: Another 32 persons, all returnees from other states, tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Monday, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 490 in the state.

With this, the accumulative active cases stand at 339.

Of the 32 latest cases, 20 samples were tested positive at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and 12 samples at VRDL in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

All necessary medical precautionary measures like contact tracing and containment process are in place, as per officials.

Meanwhile, in a significant development in COVID-19 treatment in the state, another 60 patients have recovered.

A total of 22 persons were discharged from COVID-19 care facilities at RIMS and 38 from JNIMS after they were found negative for the virus ion RT-PCR test on Monday.

According to additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, the total number of recovered patients has increased to 151.

A quick survey was carried out by the media team of health department and found that 39.5% of the pedestrians do not wear face masks raising huge concerns over the ignorance of the public, said Dr Mangang.

Wearing of face masks is a very effective means of protecting themselves and others contracting COVID-19 and urged the public to wear face masks while stepping out from home.
