No COVID-19 case in last 24 hrs in Manipur, says health official

Imphal: A total of 1,249 samples, which were tested for COVID-19 on Sunday, have been reported to be negative in Manipur, the first in 24 hours since a fresh case of novel coronavirus was recorded in the state on May 13.

According to additional health Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, of the 1,249 samples, 714 were tested at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and the remaining 535 were tested at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

The results include samples from 76 close contacts of a COVID-19 positive driver of Hindustan Construction Company Ltd engaged in Tamenglong district, Dr Mangang said.

As per the official report, the driver left for Assam on May 30 and was confirmed positive in Lakhimpur on June 2.

Earlier on Saturday night, 15 persons, including six flight passengers, were tested positive for COVID-19 at VRDLs at RIMS and JNIMS. Later, they were shifted at COVID-19 Care facilities at RIMS and JNIMS for further observation.

Till date, a total of 2,56,062 passengers have been screened at various entry points, including Imphal airport since the flight services resumed on May 25.

Meanwhile, the state health department have tested as many 17,885 samples for COVID-19, of which 172 cases recorded positive for novel coronavirus in the state.

Active cases in the state stands at 120 and 52 persons have already recovered from the virus.
