Manipur: 11 Mumbai returnees test COVID-19 positive; tally 143

Imphal: Another 11 more persons, including nine women, tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Friday night, taking the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 143.

Meanwhile, 11 other patients who were earlier detected with COVID-19 and undergoing treatment have been recovered and discharged from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

With this, the total number of recovered patients has increased to 52, with 91 remaining active cases in the state.

According to additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, through a statement issued on Saturday, all the latest 11 persons detected with COVID-19 are Mumbai returnees by train.

They were tested positive at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and now shifted at COVID-19 care facility at JNIMS for treatment.

Of the 11 new patients, three women -- aged 20, 22 and 24 years -- are from Pherzawl, the first cases of the district. The remaining eight, including two men, belong to Churachandpur district, Dr Mangang said.

Meanwhile, among the 11 recovered patients, including five women, from RIMS, four are from Imphal West, two from Ukhrul and Thoubal and one each from Bishnupur, Noney and Tamenglong districts.

All preventive control measures like contact tracing and containment process are in place, he added.
