According to official sources, the person had his swab tested for COVID-19 in Mumbai but did not wait for the result. He was informed that he was positive while he was on the train
Another person from Sikkim has tested positive for COVID-19. As per top government sources the person is a Mumbai returnee.
He had earlier given his swab samples for testing in Mumbai after he had symptoms of COVID-19 but did not wait for his test results. He then boarded the Shramik Train to New Jalpaiguri. On route he was informed by the hospital in Mumbai that he was COVID-19 positive. He was travelling in bogie no 4, with passengers from other northeastern states. Top officials say that they have informed health officials of other states.
The passenger is being brought in a separate ambulance from New Jalpaiguri railway station to STNM hospital. The other 12 passengers who travelled in the same train are being taken to a quarantine facility and Truenat tests will be conducted immediately.
The administration has started contact tracing of all those who travelled with him on the train and will be tested immediately on arrival to Sikkim other states will do the same for passengers travelling in the same train.
Earlier this week, another case of COVID-19 was confirmed in the state.
"The first COVID-19 patient has recently tested negative and to avoid contact between two patients they have been kept in separate isolation wards. The first patient is in the male isolation ward while the second patient also a male has been kept at female isolation ward", said Medical Superintendent Dr. Passang D. Phempu.
The patients are being looked after by a team of 40 healthcare workers in the COVID-19 section of STNM Hospital.
As of now, the state has 3 active cases of COVID-19 and both are asymptomatic. The first case was also a returnee from Delhi. He was being kept at a quarantine centre in Ravangla in South Sikkim.
