Manipur: 13 more test positive for COVID-19; tally soars to 121

Imphal: Thirteen more persons, including one nurse with no travel history and a three-year-old girl, tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday night, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Manipur to 121.

The nurse's case is the first with no travel history to be detected in Manipur.

Now, the total number of active cases for novel coronavirus stands at 83, with 38 patients already recovered and discharged from the hospitals.

Of the 13 cases, seven are men and six are women, including a nurse from Churachandpur district with no travel history.

Five cases from Kangpokpi district, including a three-year-old girl and one male, are returnees from Mumbai. Three cases are from Tengnoupal, all male, and are Pune returnees, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang

Another two are from Churachandpur, including the nurse and a man who returned from Chennai. The remaining three include one each from Bishnupur, Chandel and Tamenglong districts, all male, and they belong to those groups returning from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Chennai, respectively.

Samples of the 13 cases were tested at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

Though all of them are in stable condition, they have been shifted at COVID-19 Care facility at JNIMS for observation, it said.

Precautionary control measures, including contact tracing and containment process are in place to avoid further spread of the virus in the state.
