Imphal: Manipur governor Najma Heptulla on Monday ordered imposition of curfew in Imphal and other district headquarters as a precautionary measure from 2 pm to 5 am in the morning till June 15 with immediate effect until further assessment in view of the sudden rise of COVID-19 cases in the state.

The curfew timing in other parts of the state will start from 5 pm to 5 am in the morning till June 30, it said.

As a preventive control measure to avoid further spread of the virus, governor Heptulla also ordered for complete shutdown and curfew in the containment zone areas declared by the respective district magistrates till June 30.

Meanwhile, the state government is planning to reopen prohibited activities in a phased wise manner in areas outside containment zones, it said. The governor also instructed the High Court of Manipur to plan the further judiciary activities by considering the lockdown orders and guidelines to avoid further health escalation in the state. Up till now, in order to combat the pandemic spread of the virus, the High Court of Manipur has been functioning the proceedings through video conferencing.

During the lockdown, all inter-state and inter-districts transportation services shall remained closed expect those permitted by home department. Moreover, school colleges, hotels, restaurants, markets, including three Ima Keithel (women’s market) remained closed till June 30.

Activities like religious gathering, social functions etc are strictly prohibited except those activities related to essential services during the lockdown period, as per the ordered issued.

However, locality-based retail shops, agriculture activities, including farming, road constructions, MNREGA related activities are allowed to carry out various parts of the state except in Imphal and other district headquarters to avoid crowding and community transmission of the virus.

All Central and state offices continued to remained open for smooth functioning of governance providing the maintaining of only 33 per cent of the staff attend the office in rotation.

However, visitors continue to ban from visiting the departments as precautionary measure to combat the spread of novel coronavirus in the state.

The governor ordered all educational establishment to maintain the academic scheduled through online classes until the lockdown is lifted.
