All restrictions imposed in connection with containment zone over COVID-19 withdrawn from Gauhati Medical College & Hospital in Assam; institution to reopen from tomorrow
Guwahati: After all samples taken from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati tested negative for COVID-19, the Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner has withdrawn the notification declaring hostel No. 1 and 5, and surrounding areas, as containment zones, said an order on Friday.
The order is effective immediately, and all restrictions imposed in connection with the containment zone are withdrawn accordingly. The hospital will reopen from Saturday.
Informing about the same, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Visited GMCH to discuss reopening of Hospital & Medical College from tomorrow. We've taken 2200 samples of doctors, nurses, staff & people in surrounding areas; all have tested negative except 2. In view of this, we're resuming operations. Surrounding containment zone freed."
A portion of GMCH, the biggest medical institute in Assam, was sealed after a post-graduate student had tested positive for the novel coronavirus last week.
