COVID-19: 386 GMCH doctors, workers under quarantine in Assam

To contain COVID-19 infection, boys hostel No. 1 and 5 of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital declared containment zone; for next 3 days, hospital closed for new patients

Guwahati: After a postgraduate student from Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, 386 doctors, workers and officials of Assam's biggest hospital, including GMCH superintendent Dr Ramen Talukdar, have been forced to go under quarantine.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Dr Likhitesh was showing symptoms since April 28 and on April 30, he was part of a workshop. From May 4, he was on COVID screening duty with full PPE kit.

On his source of infection, the minister said that he was infected prior to May 4 as he was already showing symptoms.

Meanwhile, to ensure no further contamination, boys hostel No. 1 and 5 of GMCH have been declared containment zones, and for the next three days, the hospital will see no new patient.
