New Delhi: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday said "massive evidence" showed the new coronavirus originated in a lab in China, further inceasing tensions with China over its handling of the pandemic outbreak.

Mike's allegations came as Europe and many parts of the United States prepared to systematically lift the lockdowns as signs emerge that the deadly pandemic is weakening its grip and governments look to resume their staggered economies.

More than 2.4 lakh people were killed and 34 lakh infected around the world by the coronavirus, that has left many countries under partial or complete lockdown and pushed the global economy towards its worst downfall.

US President Donald Trump had earlier questioned China's management of the first outbreak of COVID-19 in the city of Wuhan under Hubei province in December, claimed to have considerable proof that the virus was made in a Chinese laboratory.
