Meghalaya: 8 COVID-19 patients test negative, results of 3 awaited

Out of 11 COVID-19 positive patients in Meghalaya, 8 test negative; they will need to be tested again after 24 hours, as per protocol, to be declared as completely ‘recovered’

Shillong: In a sigh of relief, eight samples of the 11 COVID-19 positive cases of Meghalaya -- the retest of which was carried out on Tuesday -- have now tested negative for the deadly coronavirus.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday tweeted, “16 family members of the index patient were tested again, including the 8 who were positive. Their test results came in today and they have all tested negative. 8 positive cases will need to be tested again after 24 hours as per protocol to completely declare them as recovered.”

As mentioned by the chief minister, another test will be carried out after 24 hours. The results of three more positive cases are yet to be known.

So far, Meghalaya has recorded 12 positive COVID-19 cases, including one death. However, it has now been over a week that the state has not reported any new case of the deadly virus.
