COVID19: How ‘coupons’ are helping in social distancing in Manipur
Imphal: Tamenglong district in Manipur has surpassed other districts in the state in following the guidelines issued by the government amid the national lockdown to check COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
As per reports, a special coupon system has been introduced in the district by the administration to maintain social distancing and control crowding in markets during the lockdown relaxation hours. This novel introduction has helped the district administration and the police to control the crowd. In fact, they have found less lockdown violators in the district headquarters after the intiative.
Multi-coloured coupons are being provided to various wards and localities to be used during the lockdown and curfew relaxations. This system has helped the security forces to identify the lockdown violators and non-adherence to the guidelines, it said.
Of the six coloured coupons issued by the district administration to households, each family is allowed to use one coupon at a time for entry into the markets. Only one member of the family is allowed to venture outside to purchase the essential commodities during the lockdown relaxation hours.
At present, markets and shops selling essential items are allowed to open from 10 am to 3 pm in the district headquarters, reports said.
Known as a ‘movement pass’, each coupon has mentioned the name of the days when markets selling essential items are opened.
So far, the district administration has issued at least 10,000 multi-coloured coupons to the public in order to maintain social distancing and control crowding in market areas during the lockdown relaxation duration to avoid further spread of the deadly virus in the district.
Moreover, the district administration has introduced usage of drones in public areas to monitor various works, and maintenance of law and order within the district jurisdiction.
