Imphal: A 23-year-old girl from Imphal West district in Manipur, the first COVID-19 patient in the state, was on Monday declared free from home surveillance, as per protocol, after she tested negative for the novel coronavirus for the fourth time.

This was informed by chief minister N Biren Singh on his Twitter handle.

“Good to share that the 1st COVID-19 patient from Manipur Miss Vimi is now free from surveillance, as per protocol, as her test result is found negative for the fourth time today,” CM Biren Singh tweeted.

The girl, who had travel history to the UK, was first admitted at JNIMS Hospital after she was detected for the virus on March 24. However, upon her quick recovery and after she tested negative for COVID-19 for the third time, she was discharged from the hospital on April 12.

However, as per protocol, the patient was kept under home surveillance for 14 days from the time of her discharge from the hospital to avoid any further health complications related to the deadly virus.

Following the 65-year-old man linked with Delhi’s Nizamuddin religious meeting, the second COVID-19 patient in Manipur, being discharged from RIMS Hospital on April 21, no fresh case of coronavirus has been reported from the state so far.

Manipur is among the three Northeast states which has been declared free from the deadly virus.

Despite no report of fresh COVID-19 positive case, the state government remained on vigil across borders by fencing the vulnerable entry points along the porous international border.

As on April 27, as many as 1,96,153 persons have screened upon their arrival in the state from various entry points, including Mao Gate in Senapati, Moreh in Tengnoupal, Jessami and Tusom in Ukhrul, Kamjong and Jiribam districts, Behiang in Churachandpur and Sinzawl in Pherzawl, besides Imphal Airport.

At present, a total of 97 people are availing of the quarantine centres being prepared by the state government to prevent spread of COVID-19 in the state.
