Guwahati: Assam government has extended the provisions for inter-district movement by three days to April 30 to allow round trips. This was announced state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday.

Round trips were not permitted in the first round of the travel relaxation within the state. All other conditions remain the same - permission from district commissioners is a must and people seeking to enter the red zone will only be granted only one-way passage. The minister informed that around 26,000 people using their vehicles have availed the provision of inter-district travel. Over 30,000 requests were rejected as they requested for a round trip.

Sarma added that during the extension, only new vehicles will be permitted, as in those which has not already been used in the first three-days of relaxation.

Meanwhile, ASTC services have also been extended till April 30, and travellers can opt for a round trip.

This decision has been taken to facilitate citizens to bring back their family members who are stranded in other parts of the state.
