Aizawl: Amid the holding of Class XII exams of the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE), which have re-scheduled them in the midst of COVID-19 lockdown from April 22-24, the deputy commissioner of Siaha district has now written to the controller of examinations (CoE) in this regard.

The notice stated that the re-commencement of the examinations for chemistry, economics, sociology, computer science and home science from April 22 is a clear violation of the order issued by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA). The order which was issued on April 15, 2020, stated that the lockdown measures stipulated in the consolidated guidelines of the MHA for containment of COVID-19 pandemic will continue to remain on force till May 3. Hence, no exemptions can be accorded for conducting the HSSLC (Class XII) board examinations, the DC said.

Meanwhile, many students have already started a social media protest with the hashtags #mbse and #norisk to express their views against the re-commencement of exams by the MBSE. The notice ironically was issued on the day the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of lockdown on April 14.

Like many boards in the country, the MBSE was also conducting the Class XII board exams in February and March when the pandemic started gaining momentum in the country. But some of the theory exams had to be canceled due to the nationwide lockdown and were supposed to commence a week after the lockdown ended.

The MBSE is yet to release any new statement regarding the matter.
