72 families across south Delhi, 17 others quarantined after delivery boy from Malviya Nagar area working with a popular pizza chain tests positive for COVID-19
New Delhi: Soon after a delivery boy of a popular pizza chain tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, 72 families residing across south Delhi have been quarantined. This includes areas such as Hauz Khas and Malviya Nagar.
Even though none of the 72 quarantined families has been tested so far for coronavirus, they will be tested if and when they develop symptoms, district magistrate BM Mishra was quoted as saying by media reports.
Mishra also added that he has asked all the delivery boys to follow safety measures while delivering and that the decision to send all the contact persons to quarantine is nothing but a precautionary measure.
Apart from the families, 17 other pizza delivery boys working with the COVID-19 patient have also been quarantined, as per reports.
Reports said that the employee was on duty until the last week of March but he tested positive for COVID-19 only on Tuesday, April 14. The employee visited a hospital earlier for dialysis and is suspected to have contracted the virus from there, said reports. With the total number of infected cases in Delhi already crossing over 1,500, the national capital has the second-highest coronavirus cases in India after Maharashtra.
