Jamie Dimon predicts a 'major recession' is on its way

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon used his annual shareholder letter to detail just how bad he thinks the US economy can get from the coronavirus pandemic.

Dimon expects a "bad recession," he wrote in the letter released Monday, saying that in the most adverse scenario, gross domestic product could plunge at a 35% annual rate in the second quarter and that a downturn would last through the rest of the year. The unemployment rate would spike as high as 14% in this environment.But Dimon added that "this scenario is quite severe and, we hope, unlikely." And even if the worst case situation bears out, JPMorgan Chase -- the largest US bank by assets -- still plans to lend an additional $150 billion to its customers.

Boris Johnson spends second night in intensive care

Boris Johnson has spent a second night in intensive care as he continues to receive treatment for coronavirus.

The PM is being kept in St Thomas' Hospital in London "for close monitoring", Downing Street said.

Mr Johnson's condition is "stable" and he remains in "good spirits", his spokesman added on Tuesday evening.

Rijiju reviews SAIs steps on athletes engagement

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday reviewed the initiatives undertaken by his ministry and Sports Authority of India (SAI) to keep the athletes engaged in the wake of the 21-day nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.

India partially lifts export ban on anti-malarial drug

India has decided to partially lift a ban on export of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine, paving the way for its supply to the US and several other countries hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Government officials said India would export hydroxychloroquine and paracetamol on a case-by-case basis to the countries which have already placed orders for them after meeting the domestic requirements.

COVID-19 positive cases cross 5k-mark in India

The number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 5,000-mark on Wednesday, with the total hitting 5,194 and death toll standing at 149, as per latest updates of the Union health ministry.

There are now 4,643 active cases across the country and 149 deaths. As many as 401 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated, the health ministry added.
