Guwahati’s Taj Vivanta to be used as quarantine centre for doctors

All doctors, nurses and cleaning staff who were on duty for 7 days will go into quarantine for 14 days, informs state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Taj Vivanta has opened its gates as quarantine centres for medical workers of GMCH, MMCH and Sonapur Civil Hospital, informed Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press conference in Guwahati of Saturday.

Earlier, the minister had announced that all doctors will go on self-quarantine for 14 days after working for seven days. Accordingly, the first case in Assam was detected on March 31, and doctors, nurses and cleaning staff of the three hospitals will go on quarantine from April 6.

Likewise, in Mumbai, five Taj Hotels properties including the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, Taj Lands End, Taj Santacruz, The President, and Ginger MIDC Andheri opened their doors to accommodate doctors of BMC treating COVID-infected patients.

Meanwhile, the Assam government also announced that it will provide an insurance of Rs 50 lakh each to 108 and 104 workers of the state, in line with the central scheme announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Further, they will get an additional amount of Rs 1,000 along with their salary for the next three months. ASHA workers will also get additional Rs 1,000 for the next three months.
