Guwahati: When several states across the country have slashed salaries for government employees, Assam will not cut monthly pay of government employees as it was mulling earlier, informed finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. All employees will get their full salary on April 9, he said during a press conference on Saturday.

Sarma, however, said that on the basis of several requests, the government will cut a day’s salary of all employees as donation for the COVID-19 relief fund. The estimated amount will be Rs 60 crore which will help the state in building a hospital amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, if anyone has any objection, then they can inform their DDO about the same as the deduction is voluntary.

The lockdown will impact Bohag Bihu celebrations in the state, and the minister appealed the 5 lakh state government employees to help at least five needy families, which will result in bringing happiness to 25 lakh needy families.

Further, he informed that a website called 'Assamcares' will be launched where government employees will be able to upload their pictures of such gestures.
