Imphal: As part of its COVID-19 containment process, the Manipur government has invited state-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) to assist it in its fight against the deadly virus in the state.

Deputy secretary (home) Dr Th Charanjeet Singh has been appointed as a nodal officer to coordinate with NGOs and CSOs who are willing to assist the government to mitigate hardships faced by the people in the state during the nationwide lockdown.

As per the invitation, there are three types of assistance for the NGOs and CSOs, such as financial, manpower and materials.

NGOs and civil organisations will also work as mediators between the local residents and the state, and to disseminate information related to precautionary measures against COVID-19.

Interested organisations are requested to send their details through an email (shomemanipur@gmail.com).

Acknowledging the important role played by civil societies, NGOs and like-minded individuals during the lockdown for their humanitarian act, the government also urged them to distribute relief items when lockdown is relaxed to purchase essential commodities and follow proper social distancing.

The state government has been doing every possible way to keep the citizens safe and called upon the people to voluntarily stay at home and maintain social distancing.

So far, the state has witnessed two COVID-19 positive cases since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country. Efforts are on to contain the deadly disease and prevent it from further spreading in the state.
