Shillong: In a bid to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, a ‘corona care centre’ with 116 rooms has been set up at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Shillong, Meghalaya.

The facility at the institute was earlier inspected by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong and home minister Lahkmen Rymbui.

Shishir K Bajoria, chairman, board of governors, IIM Shillong, in his letter to Sangma mentioned that altogether, 116 rooms have been made available for the corona care centre that will be kept open for 24 hours.

Bajoria also offered the new campus at Umsawli to the state government for the same purpose.

“258 rooms with attached facilities and classrooms of 1,000 sq mt area with proximity to NEIGRIHMS and away from the city’s population may make this location very suitable for additional corona care facility, in case required by the state government,” said Bajoria.
