COVID-19: Nagaland church starts community kitchen to feed needy 

Mokokchung district administration joins hands with Mokokchung Town Baptist Church to start community kitchen and feed stranded migrant workers, needy people

Dimapur: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a town church in the small hilly town of Mokokchung in Nagaland has started a community kitchen in its premises to serve food to the underprivileged people and those stranded amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The district administration of Mokokchung has joined hands with the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA) to start the humanitarian work from Thursday. This has come as a big ray of hope for a lot of people stranded in the town and those who were in need of food due to the national lockdown.

Speaking with EastMojo , extra assistant commissioner of Mokokchung, Sentilong Ozukum, said that the feeding initiative would go on till the lockdown continues. Ozukum added that the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church was ready to help the administration when it approached them for the initiative.

Speaking with EastMojo, Reverend Wati from Mokokchung Town Baptist Church said that 71 individuals from the town were fed on Thursday. Wati added that the community kitchen would be opened daily from 11 am to 1 pm till the lockdown is over.

Strict COVID-19 protocols are being followed in the kitchen during the time of serving the food and also while cooking. The kitchen has been set up in order to serve meals to stranded labourers, migrant workers, daily wage earners and those people in need of food.

Mokokchung town is the commercial hub and the district shares boundary with Assam in the western fronts of the district. It has strong trade ties with Assam.
