While 5 are currently in Delhi, 2 are in Lucknow; they have been contacted & confirmed that they have not returned to the state, say police sources amid coronavirus scare
Shillong: The Meghalaya police on Tuesday informed that seven members of the Shillong Markaz who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat in south Delhi’s Nizamuddin area have not returned to Meghalaya.
According to the police, of the seven members, five are currently in Delhi and two are in Lucknow. The police have contacted these members and have confirmed that they have not returned to Meghalaya.
Earlier, Anwar Ali of Shillong Markaz had informed the police about the members’ visit to Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz.
Ali in his letter said that few people who are the members of Shillong Markaz had visited Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi before the lockdown was announced. And that they had been stuck in Delhi since then.
Ali further said that as the current situation of COVID-19 outbreak has occurred, “it is our responsibility to cooperate with the administration”. “This is just an intimation so that the administration can take the necessary steps in handling the situation and taking necessary steps,” he said.
Ali also informed that the members were from Polo, Barapathar, Ladrymbai and Garikhana areas, respectively.
Meanwhile, the chief minister’s office also tweeted, saying, “Anyone from #Meghalaya who attended the religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat at Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi are requested to immediately call the Helpline no #108 and give details about their travel history and current whereabouts.”
The spike in the number of coronavirus cases in India has left the citizens worried, with Delhi's Nizamuddin emerging as a virus hotspot with links to seven COVID-19 deaths.
Earlier the ministry of home affairs said, “As of March 21, there were about 1,746 persons staying in Hazrat, Nizamuddin Markaz. Of these, 216 were foreigners & 1530 were Indians. Additionally, about 824 foreigners had been, as on March 21, doing Tableegh activities in various parts of the country.”
