Aizawl: The Mizoram government has stepped up efforts to check the spread of novel coronavirus after detection of first case in the state by beefing up anti-corona drive by recalling retired doctors and asking neighbouring Assam and Tripura to maintain strict vigil along inter-state border, a top health official said on Wednesday.

Mizoram is facing manpower crunch and infrastructure crisis amidst the rapidly increasing novel coronavirus spread.

State health department’s principal director F Lallianhlira said that the government has collected details of the retired doctors and prepared duty rosters. He said the measure is being taken to ameliorate the manpower crisis.

According to him, the retired doctors would be called for service when the state face major crisis arising out of coronavirus spread.

Health minister R Lalthangliana, meanwhile, told reporters that the existing infrastructure and manpower were not categorically up to the mark as compares to other states. He said that the state government has formed medical operation team with private hospitals to strengthen coordination and expedite medical facility in the fight against the deadly virus.

He thanked private hospital owners’ association for extending valuable helps to the state government in its effort to contain the virus.

Lalthangliana also said that the Mizoram government has appealed its Tripura and Assam counterparts to step up vigil along the inter-state border. He said that he has spoken to Assam chief minister Sarbananada Sonowal and Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma to maintain strict vigil along the inter-state border.

He said that he asked the duo to expedite screening and maintain strict vigilance in all the duty posts along the Mizoram borders with the two neighbouring states.

The health minister also said that he suggested state residents languishing in different parts of the country to stay back at their respective places and not to enter the state.
