Aizawl: A 50-year-old man from Aizawl with recent travel history to Holland has tested positive for coronavirus aka COVID-19, making it the first confirmed case in Mizoram and the second in Northeast India so far.

The patient along with his wife and two children -- who accompanied him on his trip to Europe -- have been kept at an isolation ward in Zoram Medical College (ZMC). His sample was tested at the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital in Guwahati, Assam, which declared it positive.

This was confirmed by health minister R Lalthangliana at a press meet in Aizawl on Wednesday afternoon.

The man returned from Holland with his family on March 16 and was detected on March 22. They were admitted to ZMC on Tuesday night and put into isolation ward immediately.

Officials said they're now going to disinfect his home and its surroundings. They have also contacted all the other passengers who were on the same flight with the infected person, the minister said.

Sixteen samples have been collected as part of contact tracing, the minister added.

On Tuesday, Manipur reported its first case of coronavirus aka COVID-19 after a 23-year-old girl tested positive, making it the first case of the deadly virus in Northeast India.

As per reports, the girl, who is a resident of Imphal West, had returned from London on March 19 to New Delhi by an Air India flight and reached Manipur on March 21.

“A 23-year-old Manipuri person returning from UK (England) tested positive today morning [March 24],” said state health director K Rajo Singh.
