Video of COVID-19 patient coughing and screaming with pain is going viral; being circulated widely as that of Manipur’s 1st case. EastMojo unravels the truth
Guwahati: Northeast India recorded its first case of coronavirus with a girl from Manipur testing positive for the deadly virus on Tuesday. The confirmation of this case has led to rumour mongers going into a tizzy. A video has surfaced on social media and is being circulated on WhatsApp claiming it to be of the girl who tested positive for COVID-19 in Imphal.
The video shows someone filming in the hospital where a patient can be seen lying on a stretcher inside a room and coughing and screaming with pain. The patient can also be seen wearing a mask while lying down on the stretcher.
The video has sent netizens in Manipur into a tizzy and everyone is forwarding the viral video claiming it to be of the girl who tested positive of coronavirus.
EastMojo’s fact-checking team received the video a few hours ago and swung into action to check the authenticity of the claims. The video showed a sneak peak of the hospital premises and we tried to identify if the hospital where the girl has actually been admitted has any close resemblance with the visuals shown in the viral video.
Soon after getting in touch with one of the doctors at Jawarharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, where the girl has been currently admitted in isolation ward, we were able to confirm that the video is completely fake. Also, it was found that the same video was circulating on the Internet for a long time, long before the outbreak of coronavirus.
Other independent sources also confirmed that the hospital premises shown in the viral video didn’t match with any of the hospitals in Imphal.
